Vitamin C: “This is an antioxidant that helps to fade hyperpigmentation and increase collagen production, which thickens the skin to hide underlying vessels and fill in under-eye hollows,” Palmer explains.

What causes dark circles?
“Lack of sleep can make the skin appear paler and allow the under-eye blood vessels to become more apparent. Genetics can contribute, with some people naturally being more predisposed to thinner skin or having more prominent blood vessels under the eyes,” says Palmer. However, we know aging also plays a part, as the skin eventually produces less collagen past the mid-twenties, resulting in thinner skin and pronounced blood vessels. “Allergies also contribute because they can cause dilated blood vessels under the eyes,” she adds. Oh, and drinking enough water never hurts. “Lifestyle adjustments can lead to some improvement,” she concludes.
