Influencers flock to Memorial for Christy Lynn’s new store party

Montrose is going to miss Christy Lynn. Christy Lynn Lee, the designer behind one of Houston’s fastest growing designer brands, recently moved her eponymous flagship to Memorial Villages.

With the help of Ashton Taylor Interiors, Christy Lee bid adieu to her previous atelier on Avondale, and transformed her company’s new 1,400-square foot space into a SoHo gallery-inspired showroom with Parisian undertones. A 3,700-square-foot atelier near the new store is almost complete, too.

Much like Lee’s clothing, Ashton Taylor Interiors infused femininity and florals into architectural details. Christy Lynn fans will immediately take note of the custom Segreto flower plasterwork, designed by Christy Lee’s sister, Vickie Lee, in New York, who creates all of the brand’s signature prints.

After studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, Lee worked under Nanette Lepore as an assistant designer of beading and embroidery and Elie Tahari where she honed her tailoring and suiting skills. She also spent five years with Catherine Malandrino, who became her mentor.

Launching a clothing line in New York felt daunting; in Houston, the idea seemed much more achievable. Tootsies became one of the first local retailers to buy the Christy Lynn collection. Today, the line is sold in more than 100 luxury retailers worldwide.

To keep pace with the rapid growth, Christy Lee announced on Thursday that her husband, Christophe Lee, would be joining the company full-time as CEO.

“When I brought this collection to Houston four years ago, I never thought this would be part of my journey,” Christy Lee told an intimate group of dinner guests.

Friends, family and influencers got a sneak peek at Christy Lynn’s new digs — and the resort collection. The designers latest work is moodier and more substantial. There’s a heavy brocade gown with exquisite peekaboo lining; it’s also available as matching separates. A two-piece silk taffeta set is perfect for the holiday circuit, as is a black sequined blouse with floral appliques.

Thursday’s guests fawned over a Susana Vega beaded belt. The Venezuelan-born, Houston-based jewelry designer was named “Accessories Designer of the Year” at the 2022 Latin American Fashion Summit. Vega’s wares are for sale at the new Christy Lynn HQ, too.

A group of attendees instinctively wore Vega earrings with their Christy Lynn dresses including Mariana Barran, owner of Hibiscus Linens, and media personality Courtney Zavala. Seated around the dinner table, catered by Masraff’s, were Donae Chramosta, Valerie Dittner, Jasmine Nguyen, Melissa Segulas, Mandy Kao, Duyen Nguyen, Alexandra Killion, Lily Jang and Luisa Rangel de Alba.

Celebrations continued over weekend with an opening day cocktail part on Friday.
