“You can pair a printed flowy maxi skirt with a quirky T-shirt and sneakers, but make sure to draw a balance with prints and colours you choose to suit your body type,” she said.
Here are some ways you can pair different kinds of maxi skirts and ace the trend.
Flowy and lightweight fabrics (such as chiffon or crepe)
“These fabrics create an elegant and ethereal look,” Alexander said. They are perfect for a more feminine or romantic style. She advised to pair them with a fitted top or a lace blouse.
Cotton or linen fabrics
Maxi skirts, made of breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, are great for casual and everyday wear. “You can style them with a tucked-in graphic tee or a button-up shirt for a relaxed yet chic look,” said Alexander.
Denim or chambray fabrics
Denim or chambray maxi skirts offer a more casual and edgy vibe. Alexander suggested pairing them with a cropped top or a tucked-in casual top for a trendy and elegant look.
Knit fabrics
“Jersey or sweater material, provide comfort and coziness,” said Alexander. They are ideal for colder weather or relaxed, casual outfits. “Pair them with a cozy sweater or a fitted turtleneck for a comfortable yet stylish ensemble,” she opined.
Printed fabrics
Maxi skirts with vibrant prints or patterns can add a pop of visual interest to your outfit. “Style them with a solid-colored top in a complementary shade to balance the overall look and team with minimal accessories,” she said.
Ultimately, the choice of fabric allows for various interpretations of the maxi skirt, ranging from elegant and dressy to casual and laid-back, according to Alexander. By selecting the right fabric and pairing it with appropriate tops and accessories, you can create a multitude of stylish outfits suitable for different occasions.
